We have encountered many creative ways to keep a pencil handy in a geocache while protecting the log book and plastic bag from incidental damage from the business end of the pencil, but this is one of the simplest and most effective ones. These wooden blocks are made from cedar, with holes to put the pointy end of the pencil in to keep it secure. Not only does it help prevent the tip from breaking off, but the other items in the cache are less likely to be punctured and the soft wood they are made from makes these pencil holders easily customizable to help your cache stand out. Fits most standard pencils but if pencil is slightly loose, a wrap of tape around the pencil ensures a snug fit.
